About Us

SAS Management and Employees

SAS's principal partner and division managers each possess 15 to 35 plus  years of experience in providing environmental and technical support services for a diverse group of clients. Through successful completion of projects under most of the major federal and state environmental regulatory programs, SAS's management team has established cooperative working relationships with state and federal regulators.

Mark V. Allen, CHMM (Partner/Chief Executive Officer/Manager Remediation Services)
has provided environmental assessment and remediation support services (as an employee of oil corporations and environmental consulting firms) in the Great Lakes Region since 1981. He has directed and managed complex environmental assessment and remediation projects in a variety of regulatory contexts. For more than a decade, his focus has been directed toward the design, installation, and operations and maintenance of in-situ soil and groundwater remediation systems, and landfill leachate and gas collection systems. He is well-versed in developing cost-effective remediation strategies, and evaluating remediation systems developed by others. He also has extensive experience with oversight of other consultants.

Bernhard Dirska (Geologist)
has over 20 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry. At SAS, he conducts routine Operation and Maintenance (O&M) and groundwater sampling at various sites across several states.

Jason L. KIng, P.G.  (Professional Geologist)
is a  Professional Geologist and has over 9 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry. At SAS, he conducts routine Operation and Maintenance (O&M) and groundwater sampling at various sites across several states. Mr. King has also completed ASTM and SBA Phase I and Phase II assessments for lending institutions, developers, industries and municipalities.

Douglas W. Schwan (Partner/Chief Financial Officer)
provides SAS with over 30 years experience in business and financial management. His comprehensive experience allows him to negotiate competitive prices with vendors, act as a liaison with lending institutions, and maintains an Excellent "Prompt Pay Rating" as reported by Dunn & Bradstreet.

Douglas P. Klicman, P.G., CP269 (Manager, Environmental Services)
is a Certified Professional in Ohio, a licensed professional geologist in several states, and has provided environmental and hydrogeological assessments and remediation services to clients throughout the eastern US since 1989. He has experience conducting projects under RCRA, the Ohio VAP, and numerous state UST programs.

Laurie B. Hillebrand, P.G. (Project Manager)
has over 15 years of experience as a consultant focusing on all aspects of the environmental industry. and is a Certified Professional Geologist.  At SAS, Ms. Hillebrand co-manages the due diligence section of SAS, and has been involved in executing ASTM, VAP, ODOT and HUD Phase I and Phase II assessments for lending institutions, developers, industries, and municipalities.

Michael R. McVan (Project Manager)
has over 10 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry. At SAS, Mr. McVan co-manages the due diligence (Phase I ESA) section of SAS. He is a Certified Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist, performing asbestos surveys and sampling.

Mathew G. Geissinger (Manager, Landfill Operations) has over sixteen years of experience in environmental consulting and landfill operations.  He has overseen drilling operations, performed soil and groundwater sampling, conducted aquifer testing, and maintained and operated various pumping and vapor extraction systems.  He has also been responsible for technical report preparation (including health and safety plans); sampling, monitoring and compliance reports; and SPCC plans.  As project manager, he is competent with project cost estimation, budget management, equipment maintenance and operation, permit preparation and acquisition, data review and validation, field oversight, and regulatory agency interaction.

James M. Mix (Landfill Services Field Supervisor) has over sixteen years of experience working with landfill leachate and gas collection systems.  He is well versed in the operation and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical control systems.  He trains and supervises a team of field technicians in the proper operation and maintenance of the various pumps, blowers, and control equipment comprising leachate, gas, and remediation systems.  He has also implemented innovative solutions to increase system performance and reduce operation costs.

All employees are held to these high standards helping us to maintain a superior health and safety record.  All employees have received HAZWOPER certification, first aid and CPR training, as well as job specific training such as pipe welding, forklift operation, UTC and/or Buckeye Pipeline Training.
